Ericsson leader appointed KTH Chairman

Ulf Ewaldsson, Senior Vice President and Head of Business Area Digital Services at Ericsson, has been appointed Chairman of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden. Founded in 1827, KTH is Sweden’s largest technical research and learning institution. It is home to students, researchers and faculty from around the world who share a dedication to advancing knowledge.

Sigbritt Karlsson, President of KTH, says: ”That Ulf will chair the board is great and inpsiring. His experience in collaborative and global work will fit our ambition to take KTH to the next level.”

Ewaldsson will perform the duties of Chairman in parallel to his position at Ericsson and in this interview, shares his thoughts about the appointment:

How does it feel to be named Chairman of KTH?

The Royal Institute of Technology is one of the finest technical schools and research organizations where I personally have been involved for a bit over one year. As I take over the chairmanship, I will continue to drive the innovative spirit that makes Sweden an international pioneer in technology.

What convinced you to accept the role?

I didn’t hesitate for a second. I’m honored to take on this role and am convinced that society and the world economy needs more and stronger collaborations to solve our planet’s great challenges. I look forward to participating in the university’s development.

What is your experience with KTH?

I have a personal connection to this institute with my engagement in research and development in Sweden, and of course with the digital and hyper-connected society that Ericsson is part of creating. For two years now, I have been chairman of Digital Demo Stockholm and have also been a member of the KTH board for that past year.

Globalization, equality and sustainable development are pillars of the Institute’s development. What are your thoughts on those?

In a globalized society, KTH can play an even greater role in the big questions – the world challenges I was talking about earlier. That is very important to me.
