The first alpine skiing competition for children will take place on the Sorica Slope in Azuga

At the end of this week, Valea Prahovei will be the host of the first alpine skiing competition for children organized in Romania. The event, consisting of two competition days, will take place on the Sorica Slope in Azuga, Prahova County.

On March 10 and 11, 2018, Sorica Slope from Azuga will host an alpine skiing competition dedicated to children aged between 6 and 11. The event entitled Kids Ski Challenge is supported by Vodafone Romania and its first edition will take place this year, being organized by Asociatia Clubul Sportiv Ski Racing Armada 24 (Ski Racing Armada 24 Sports Club Association – e.n.). The competition aims to support children practicing alpine skiing, in order to help them in their sports development.

The event consists of two competition days, each of them being provided with a giant slalom phase, the route going to be adjusted according to the decisions of the competition manager, so that it will meet the safety regulations and the level of the competitors.

The competition route will be secured by protective nets, while a team of the Azuga Rescue Service will be present to provide first aid in case of emergency. The competition will be attended by children of the mentioned age groups, regardless of their level, gender or nationality. Regarding this event, Mircea Eremia, the representative of the Asociatia Clubul Sportiv Ski Racing Armada 24, which is the organizer of the competition, wished to say: “When we planned to organize this competition, we thought at everything that sports mean for children. We wish to reactivate this noble sport in Romania, a sport with history and many practitioners of all ages. We wish to make children in Romania spend more time outdoors and to contribute to the development of this sport. If we want to have athletes representing us at the Winter Olympic Games in the future, then we must promote skiing and increase the number of those who can perform in sports, and a first step is this competition dedicated to children aged between 6 and 11”.

The competition is also supported by the only Romanian skier present in the Alpine Ski World Cup, Ioan Valeriu Achiriloaie, the best Romania skier at the downhill competition. He wished to mention that these contests, organized at an early age, as the one taking place at Azuga, are a cornerstone for the performance sports.

The first day of the competition, March 10, will start with a technical meeting, followed by the identification of the route, and then the first leg of the competition will start. The second day, on March 11, the second leg is scheduled, being followed by the awarding ceremony.
